ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Andria Shafer and I am an illustrator and art fabricator with a background in puppet fabrication and set design. Within my personal work I explore both personal fears and societal issues through horror tropes and narratives. In the recent work, "Tooth", I turned a pencil illustration of a girl taking out her own tooth into a stop motion set about the tooth fairy. The piece not only reflects my own personal fear of teeth but it also relates to the feelings of growing up and not being able to let go of one’s innate innocence. Specifically, I used my own childhood home as the main character’s house to make the piece more personal and nostalgic. I illustrate creatures that are representative of spaces that have impacted who I am. Most of my work is a direct reflection of personal experiences using metaphors of monsters and creatures.
